Nicholas Felty is a trumpet instructor, sectional coach, and musician based in Louisville, Kentucky. As a musician, he frequently performs in a wide variety of ensembles such as jazz combos, big bands, chamber orchestras, wind ensembles, brass bands, and many other groups. He has had the privilege to perform with incredible artists such as Doc Severinsen, Vince DiMartino, Charles McPherson, Carmen Bradford, just to name a few. Mr. Felty has performed with several different groups at the Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) Conference, including Sideshow Brass, the University of Louisville Trumpet Ensemble, and many others. He has also performed twice at the Midwest International Band Clinic in Chicago, Illinois, in 2021 with the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic and University of Louisville Symphony Orchestra and in 2023 with the Louisville Concert Band and Chamber Winds Louisville.
As an educator, Mr. Felty has been working with several schools in the Louisville and southern Indiana area since 2018. He has served many different roles such as private teacher, trumpet sectional coach, winds instructor, visual instructor, and Assistant Marching Director. Mr. Felty maintains a trumpet studio with students placing in district and state level ensembles. Along with educating, he is also a frequent adjudicator for various additions, festivals, and conferences.
Mr. Felty holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education with an emphasis in Jazz from the University of Louisville. He has had the opportunity to study with many incredible performers and educators. His mentors include Dr. Reese Land, Dr. Ansyn Banks, Dr. Jim Recktenwald, and Dr. Michael Tunnell.
